Ping i5 Irons
Goal Of Iron Set: Maximum forgiveness and playability for the progressive golfer.
From Ping: "PING engineers sought a balance. of forgiveness and playability in the design of the i5 iron. The mid-size, perimeter-weighted head features less offset than the G5 iron while sharing many of the G5's proven design characteristics.
We Say: The Ping i5 Iron is a mid-size, stainless
steel iron with reduced offset. It is very forgiving and provides a full size
swing.
The set includes 3-PW irons. Available in right or left-handed models, these
clubs are creating a lot of buzz in the golfing world. It has been recommended
that these clubs be used by players with at least an intermediate skill level,
because as you improve, you may want an oversized club in the next few years
for more playability.
If you are willing to spend a little more, it is also recommended that you buy
the graphite clubs over the traditional steel ones, for obvious reasons. Your
swing will be much more effective when using a graphite shaft. If you do go
for the graphite, expect to pay roughly 200 more, on average. Many a golfer
would tell you its well worth it!
The perimeter weighted i5 golf iron shares many of the G5 iron features, including
the larger, thinner Custom Tuning Port (CTP) for an improved feel. The sole
width and cavity size of these i5 golf irons are created to provide forgiveness
and playability. The lead edge and bounce angle of the Ping i5 iron is designed
for a smoother, forgiving transition through the turf and from the rough. At
$948 for the retail graphite set, these clubs aren't exactly cheap, but rest
assured, you will get your money's worth.
In Conclusion: The set to take a mid-handicapper (11-20) to single digits.
